How to review a peptide batch report for procurement

A report is useful when it answers a relevant question about the material being offered. Begin with its identity and scope, then decide whether it supports your laboratory’s requirement.

01

Start with sample and batch identity.

Read the material description, sample identifier, report date and batch information. Compare those fields with the supplier’s offered lot. If a field is missing or the names differ, ask for an explanation before treating the report as evidence for the purchase.

02

Name the property being measured.

Check the analytical method and the reported result. A purity percentage, identity result and quantity determination address different questions. Do not let a large percentage stand in for an answer the method does not provide.

03

Verify the original source.

Use the issuing laboratory’s original report or verification route where available. Ask for a complete readable record, including relevant method information and limitations. A screenshot without provenance or a synthetic example is not a substitute for a real record.

04

Record what remains unresolved.

Document the questions your laboratory still needs answered. Link the accepted specification and report to the actual order record, and review changes before repeat procurement. The presence of a report does not by itself certify suitability for every application.
